What exactly is DTG direct to garment printing?

Direct to garment printing is a relatively new technique that allows us to print an infinite number of colors and graphics on T-shirts and other clothing goods.

Despite its youth, high-end DTG machines may create print work on par with (or better than) conventional screen printing.

With no minimum order and a lot of flexibility, this is great for people who need extremely precise design work (such as images) or who need modest purchase numbers.

What is the process of DTG Direct to Garment Printing in Singapore?

Direct to garment printers are all offspring of the desktop inkjet printer and operate in a similar manner. They are, however, significantly bigger and print straight onto the clothing.

The ink is entrenched into the materials, resulting in a softer texture that will not break or peel off like other print processes.

This is perfect for short runs since it offers a quick turnaround time and no setup fees.

Feel of Direct to Garment Printing

Direct to Garment Printing produces a soft-to-the-touch texture because the water-based inks lie inside the cloth rather than on top of it. As a result of the improved durability, DTG is perfect for goods and retail items.

A base coat is essential when printing on dark colors using DTG. As a result, when contrasted against a similar pattern on a white garment, the print may seem somewhat elevated.

If you have a design with just a few colors and require more than 50 reproductions of the same image, screen printing may be more cost effective. But don’t worry; if you’re unsure, our professional staff will be able to advise you to the optimal procedure for your purchase.

What is the cost of DTG?

If you’re purchasing less than 100 pieces, DTG custom shirt printing is usually the most cost-effective printing process. With pricing far cheaper than conventional print technologies such as screen printing and comparable quality, DTG is often the best option. Contact t-shirt printing Singapore for a quote now

Is DTG print susceptible to cracking?

Your DTG printed T-shirts should not break or peel off since the DTG inks are printed into the fabric rather than on top of it. DTG is one of the most long-lasting print processes available.

Does DTG fade or wash out?

Like a new pair of jeans, you may lose a little vibrance after the first wash, but this should be negligible if cleaned appropriately and according to the garment’s care recommendations.

Aside from that, whether it’s a DTG printed sweatshirt, tote bag, or T-shirt, they should be quite durable.

Please keep in mind that this is dependent on the equipment used and the quality of the inks; thus, if you’ve been let down by DTG in the past, don’t dismiss the technique entirely; it might just be a question of trying a new supplier with higher quality inks and technology.

Is DTG printing of high quality and long-lasting?

The machines and inks used have a huge impact on the quality and durability. When you work with a DTG printing firm like us, you can anticipate retail-level quality and colorful prints that are on par (or better than) classic print processes like screen printing.

As a firm that provides both direct to garment printing and screen printing, we can state this with total objectivity.

Products that can be printed using DTG

T-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, and tote bags are the most common direct to garment printing goods. DTG may generally be used to print on products that have a high proportion of cotton in their composition and fit in the printer.

We have many additional goods that can be DTG printed, so if you’re not sure whether your desired product can be DTG printed, please let us know and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Is it necessary to pretreat before DTG?

Yes, garment articles need a pre-treatment before being DTG printed. In most cases, the pre-treatment is applied by the printer during the printing process, guaranteeing a superb finish and no sticky/smelly pre-treatment residue that you may encounter with cheaper DTG setups.

Is DTG printing white?

While some less expensive DTG printers cannot print white, our market-leading devices can print white along with hundreds of other colors. This assures that we can print on whatever color T-shirt you like.

On black shirts, DTG printing is used.

It is not an issue to print DTG on black T-shirts. Because a base layer of white ink must be applied before printing your design on black or any other color other than white, the print will feel similar to a screen print. This foundation coat guarantees that your design is vibrant and that all of the colors are seen.

Polyester DTG printing

We recommend only DTG printing on clothing that are at least 70% cotton. For the best results, we recommend screen printing or digital transfer printing on materials with a high polyester content.

Sublimation printing vs. direct to garment printing
Sublimation works best for all-over print coverage and sportswear. Sublimation inks only adhere to polyester, hence sublimation printing is not feasible if the cloth is not 100 percent polyester. DTG is the polar opposite; its inks only adhere to cotton, thus any cloth that contains 70% or more cotton is perfect.
DTG printing vs. heat transfer printing and vinyl printing
Non-cotton products such as coats, jackets, purses, and sportswear are best suited for heat transfers and vinyl printing. In certain cases, heat transfers are the ideal printing process to use. For the best results when printing on T-shirts or other items with a high cotton %, we always suggest DTG printing over heat transfer prints.
Screen printing vs. direct to garment printing
One of the most often asked questions is, “Should I go with DTG printing or screen printing?” When it comes to quality, DTG is on par with, and in some cases, superior than, screen printing. When it comes to selecting the best print technique, it’s less about which is ‘better’ and more about which is most appropriate. Many print businesses may assert that one approach is superior than another, but this is usually because they only offer one alternative. The truth is that they serve distinct objectives and perform well in different conditions. Screen printing may be the ideal solution for you if you’re mass printing in huge quantities with a basic design. However, if you need lesser quantities or have a really complicated design, DTG is most likely the best solution.
Using a DTG printer vs embroidering
When picking between DTG and embroidery, there are a few factors to consider. The first is the fabric type and design size. If the cloth is light (like in a T-shirt), yet the design is enormous, we’d choose DTG. A huge embroidery, particularly on a T-shirt, may be rather hefty. A huge embroidery wouldn’t be an issue on sweatshirts, hoodies, jackets, and other heavy garments, and it would even be the ideal choice. Because DTG is not viable on textiles like fleece, embroidery is the only option. The intricacy of the design is the second factor to examine. DTG printing is often the greatest solution for complicated patterns since the ink pigments are much smaller than threads. Because threads are much thicker than ink pigments, it is more difficult to achieve the same degree of detail. So, if you have tiny, detailed text or design components, DTG is probably the best option. Personal preference is the last thing to consider. In other cases, such as a basic pattern on a cotton sweatshirt, both print and embroidery might be appropriate. In that scenario, it’s totally up to you, since both decorating techniques are really durable and look wonderful.

Water-based DTG inks are used for printing in Singapore. Heavy metals, formaldehyde, and Alkylphenol Ethoxylates (APE) are not included in the water-based NeoPigmentTM inks, making them non-hazardous, non-toxic, and biodegradable.

The biodegradable ink and energy-saving method of our printers as part of our waterless printing system make them the greatest alternative for eco-conscious firms.

DTG is also known as digital T-shirt printing, and because of its digital nature, we’ve even seen clients refer to it as digital screen printing. While we typically understand what consumers mean when they use terminology like these, the actual term for the procedure is DTG, or Direct to Garment.

In summary, if you hear the term “digital T-shirt printing” in Singapore, it’s most certainly referring to DTG.
